{27:365} Fire & Water

{27:365} Fire & Water

This”raging” stream caught my eye as I as enjoying a libation at the hotel bar with some colleagues. This is the scene from the Woodlands Inn located in Wilkes Barre, PA. The deck had poles of fire and overlooked this stream that was strategically lit up in various places.  I used the deck as my tripod on this one and tried to capture the flowing Fire & Water.

Cloud Slivers

Cloud Slivers

We were up early this morning to see Bob off as he headed back north to Vermont.  I happened to catch a glimpse of these funny little cloud slivers when I was letting the dogs out, so naturally I grabbed the closest camera and snapped.

Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

Woodpeckers are my favorite types of birds to watch. When we started seeing them at our feeders I was very excited. There are a few regulars that we get (Downy, Hairy, Red bellied, Northern Flicker…). This picture is of a Yellow bellied sapsucker, which is pretty much a woodpecker – same family. We have never seen one of these in the yard, and after placing a few different style feeders in the yard, here he is! He is perched on a log feeder that I just made. Basically, it is a 2.5′ section of a tree limb with 1″ holes drilled through it. I stuff the holes with suet and the birds love it – especially the woodpeckers.

Angel Of Growth

Angel Of Growth

This was my first drawing of 2010. I started drawing it with a totally different idea of how I wanted it to go and it ended up, oddly enough, looking like one of the flowers my friend Anushika gave me on Curry Night a few days ago. I felt a bit eerie when I realised I’d inadvertently made an Angel out of the lily on the other side of the room.

Whenever that happens I always wonder how much control we really have over the things we create, and there’s something comforting about whatever is behind-the-scenes guiding our hands. It also made me happy that my first drawing of the year has such brightness and hope in her. 2010 is going to be a good year!
