The Island of Misfit Carrots

I took a walk down to the produce place at the corner of Torresdale and Robbins today. I love this little place because the vegetables remind of of back when I gardened. Its an ‘Island of Misfit Carrots’ sort of place where vegetables actually look like they did 20 years ago. Most Americans who buy their produce in a supermarket are seeing vegetables that look like they all won a beauty pageant. This place sells most of its goods to restaurants where the taste and the final results matter and the way the unprepared produce looks are irrelevant.
