Every day on my way in and out of the office, I pass by this old school barber / coffee shop on the subway level of our building. It fascinates me. I’ve always preferred to have my hair cut by an old man with a straight razor and a shaky wrist. At a place like this you can count on a clean shave, a slick do and some good old-fashioned conversation. And it usually only runs about $10. I normally see John at 13th and Wharton, but I may have to cheat on him this month and give it a shot. If there’s coffee, I may have to make a switch.

“… an old man with a straight razor and a shaky wrist.” – That’s the way to go! I haven’t had a good haircut like that in a long time, but after reading your post I may have to indulge. There is something about the warm lather and the straight razor that just gives you the feeling that you are getting a “real” haircut. It also reminds me of a great short story – “Lather and Nothing Else”
Dan – I have never seen anyone (worker or patron) in this place. But if you go, I might join ya.
Dave – Reminds me of Sal’s
There was actually a woman in there cleaning up hair tonight on my way out. They must close up around 5. I’m planning on heading down during lunch tomorrow if you’re ready for a new do. Mine is a bit beyond its expiration.
Love your blog Keep em coming I look forward to more!
