I Own This Store!

I Own This Store!

I’m going skiing at Mont Tremblant this weekend (look forwards to the photos!) so I needed to gear up at Mountain Equipment Co-Op.  MEC is a co-operative, and everyone who shops there must first purchase a $5 membership for life, with each membership being worth one share in the company.

Every MEC store is built with sustainability in mind with plenty of glass for natural lighting, reusing old timber, green roofs, and they give 1% of their revenue for environmental causes.  They are also socially ethical, by working only with responsible manufacturers with good labour conditions.  As maximizing profit is not their goal, they offer very fair prices for their goods.

I’m not kidding…

I’m not kidding…

that is the color of the light our neighbors use in their backyard. Tonight as I tried to take a picture of the latest snowfall, that scene is what greeted me when I looked out the window. I looked at the photo as a black & white, but since it is not too focused, it didn’t look right. Someday I will learn to take pictures in the night. You read it here.

Five Guys Fries

Five Guys Fries

Brian and I got our quarterly haircuts tonight and decided to grab dinner to take home from the newest Five Guys Burgers (and Fries) in the area. This one is in Cinnaminson in the strip-mall in front of our first Shop-rite with an in-store liquor department.

At Arbys waiting for my food. You can sort of see me. I take a lot of random self portraits like this.

A sweet sight

A sweet sight

I work near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, not the most exciting place in the world, but every once in a while you catch sight of something interesting.  I only just realized recently that a couple blocks away is the factory that produces Sweet ‘n’ Low, one of the original non-cancer causing sugar substitutes.  Having had a bit of time to kill after work while waiting for my bus, I walked down to get a picture.  Wonder if they do tours?
