97th Grey Cup

97th Grey Cup

Watching the 97th Grey Cup, the championship game of the Canadian Football League (CFL) 2009 season.  The favourite Montréal Alouettes were down 25-27 to the underdog Saskatchewan Roughriders.

With 5 seconds left on the clock, the Alouettes kicker Damon Duval missed a field goal from 43 yards and the Roughriders started celebrating.  However, an illegal substitution (too many men on the field) penalty was called on Saskatchewan, resulting in a 10-yard penalty.  Duval redeemed himself in the very next play and made the 33-yard field goal to give the Alouettes an exciting 28-27 win.

The trophy was named after Earl Grey (Albert, the 4th Earl Grey; the tea blend is named after Charles, the 2nd Earl Grey),  the Governor General of Canada 1904-1911.  The only time the trophy left Canada was in 1995, when the Baltimore Stallions won the 83rd Grey Cup.

Frapto 29 – It is a small world

Frapto 29 – It is a small world

I had a small globe, made of tin, when I was little. It split in half and you could hide stuff inside. I loved that little globe, but one day in vanished. I think I had stupidly taken it too school with me (junior school age 7-11) and one of the buggers stole it. Anyhoo years later, my sister bought me this globe. Although I still think about that wee tin globe, at least I have a replacement.

For JD: It is about the size of a small grapefruit :)

Benner Street

Benner Street

Late this afternoon I took Aiko for a walk down to the park.  The park was a little too crowded so we made a loop down Keystone Street to Benner Street and up towards home.  That route takes us through a light industrial area and when we came around the corner on Benner Street I saw this building.  I really did not capture look that attracted me in this image.   At the time, the sun was setting across the street and there were gorgeous blue, pink, and violet tones reflected from the glass behind the bars.
