The View From My Office, South

The View From My Office, South

Here’s the view of downtown Toronto in twilight from my office window (Streetview).  You are looking south down St. George St. (the main street through the University of Toronto campus).  I wish I had taken this picture in October–the fall colours were stunning.

In the foreground, the red house is the office of the Transition Year Programme (for mature students looking to go back to school), the building right to the south is the Physical Geography Building, and the brown ’70s-style building south of that is the Galbraith Engineering Building.  The building in the right foreground hosts the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.  In the foreground you can also see a blue hotdog and fries truck for hungry students.

The downtown core is in the left-middle background, while the hospitals of University Avenue can be seen along the left middleground.  The large blue building in the centre-right of the picture is the top of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). If you look carefully, you can see a metal helical staircase in the middle of it.  The large needle on the far right is the landmark CN Tower. Next to it, the tall building under construction is the new Ritz Carlton Toronto.

Hope this helps to convince you to visit our city some time (preferably in the summer)!

Local Color

Local Color

We have a local artist, Isaiah Zagar, that works all over the city and makes these amazing Mosaic murals on the side of businesses, houses, etc. This is a local coffee house down the street from my house that has some work on the side.   I admit that I’ve not gotten anything here yet.  They tend to have these weird cleansing and wellness events so I’ve not strolled in but I go to the one that you can sort of see on the corner in the background called, B2.  Mostly, I go to B2 because I love their prices, they’re fast, and they have soy everything available (even soy cream cheese omg!).

There are some copies of his work around town too.  He also has a giant Magic Garden on South Street that is just amazing and something that pictures never do justice. – All the mosaics around town can be seen in this set -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucindalunacy/tags/mosaic/  But also you can go directly to his Magic Garden Set here -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucindalunacy/sets/72157605289144103/
