All The Colors of Fall
These are leaves native to our area here in NW NJ, the Skylands region. JD & Brian live about 90 minutes southwest from me but our weather patterns and native trees are quite different. Pictured are leaves from ash, sweetgum, birch, beech. hickory and ash trees. Surrounding the rock are brown pin oak and white oak leaves. Black, pin and white oaks never turn color, just brown and many stay dead on the trees until the new spring growth pushes them off. Which probably is one of the reasons that explains why oak is is considered such a strong tree. Red oaks, on the other hand, turn russet and are in our area, though not as many (and yes, their leaves stay on the trees too.)
